Community development is an essential part of social activism in ensuring access to better and developed social infrastructure to the public. To achieve this goal, SPANDHANA is active in villages by addressing the requirement of basic amenities, an increase of standard of living by linking people advanced and developed infrastructures.

Energizing Local Self-Government: To accomplish the goal of community development, SPANDHANA networks closely with the local self-government. The groups that are formed among women, Dalit communities, youth, children and families are also awakened about their rights as citizens and also about available social schemes under government towards their emancipation. We also teach them about the means of accessing the available schemes and also empowerment to be beneficiaries of the schemes. Some of programs accomplished are:

  • Job Cards were issued to women and Dalit men under MGNREGA schemes

  • Many have been the beneficiaries of Ashraya and IAY housing schemes

  • Got several anganawadis and PHCs implemented through prolonged protests and pressure building.

  • Construction of roads, drainage and toilets.

  • Encouraging women and Dalits to contest in local elections and campaigning for their victory. 8 persons have so far won elections who are have been constantly trained by SPANDHANA on leadership skills and general awareness on public administration in ensuring welfare of the people.

Yuvaspandhana and Children’s Initiatives:

The intention behind the creation of ‘Yuvaspandhana’ and ‘MakkalaChavadi’ (Children’s Initiatives) was to make the new generation more socially responsible and considerate towards the rights of weaker sections, and to fight for justice. Children are involved in various activities including workshops, trainings, summer camps and competitions to instill tolerance and awakening on gender equality, social justice and about their role towards community development.
